Fleet GPS Tracking System: Useful or Scary?

Have you ever heard about Fleet GPS Tracking System? This is a surveillance technology that makes me a little scared because of its ability. Maybe some of you already heard and some others were not.

I think we all know what a GPS is; Global Positioning System is a device that can show you a precise place of an object, usually itself. It used inside a car to show which is the right way to go and sometimes people bring GPS when travelling to guide them. GPS has become a widely used aid to navigation worldwide, map making, scientific uses, land surveying, commerce and even just for hobbies. The basic concept of GPS is calculating its position by carefully timing the signal sent by the constellation of GPS satellite high above earth.

With some modification and additions of technology, we can use GPS as tracking unit. GPS tracking unit is a device that uses the GPS to determine the precise location of a vehicle, person, or any moving object and to record the position at regular intervals. Usually this tracking device is used for Fleet management.

Based on Wikipedia, Fleet management is the management of a company’s vehicle fleet. Fleet management includes commercial motor vehicles such as cars, vans and trucks. Fleet management includes a range of functions, such as fleet (vehicle) financing, fleet maintenance, fleet tracking, fleet diagnostics, driver management, fuel management and health & safety management. The main idea is to make sure the vehicles get to the destination safely and efficiently. Because of that, this tracking system called Fleet GPS Tracking System.

Some of the benefits of using Fleet GPS Tracking especially for delivery services company or taxi company are:
• Reduce rising fleet expenses.
• Raise fleet efficiency.
• Reduce the time your drivers are spending at unauthorized locations.
• Monitor the activities of your mobile personnel and reduce car operating costs.
• Reduce the downtime of field employees.

There’s nothing to be scared of when you read all the usefulness I mentioned above, but have you ever imagine if someone put this device on your car and then tracking you wherever you go and whatever you do? That’s scary, at least for me. I also tried the demo view at brickhousesecurity.com, and this is the picture. You can see the car in the bird view mode. Even you can recognize someone face in this mode.

So this technology is really useful for fleet tracking system include tracking your lost car but as long as this great technology used by the “right hand”.
